Seven Types of Rest for a Human Being

Burnout doesn’t just stem from overworking; it often arises from a lack of balanced life choices. This insightful graph illustrates various forms of rest we need beyond mental and physical.

At the beginning of the year, I took a moment to jot down my priorities (not resolutions) under different headings and realised that our lives encompass so much more than just “Work” and “Personal.” When was the last time you simply sat doing nothing (not even with your mobile in hand)? Or penned down a wild idea you had or indulged in journaling? Have you reached out to an old friend just to reconnect, for no particular reason? What about revisiting your spiritual side to discern your life’s purpose — whether in a temple or in the solace of your home?

The infographic highlights the diverse types of rest essential for our well-being, yet many of us may not actively pursue rest beyond the physical realm, as we often equate resting with physical labour.

Perhaps I’m a bit biased, but introverts may have an advantage in recognising these facets more readily (in general) since their focus tends to be more inward.

What are your thoughts? Do you consciously strive to address all these factors? Feel free to share your experiences!
